In the initial part it begins as the functional resume and ends as a chronological format. This is the combination of both functional and chronological formats. It is the ideal format to use when designing a resume. This will highlight your existing skills and list your job details in chronological manner. This will give clear understanding of the applicants past work history to the employer. Chronological Resume Sample This is the most commonly used format and hence most sample resumes you see are written in this format. The job experiences are presented in reverse chronological manner in this format. Presenting the details in this format you will provide the sense of security to the employer that you dont have any employment gaps in your past.
If their job requires customer service skills be sure you have that skill and list it on your resume. If you do not have a skill the employer is looking for then try to map the skills you do have to the one they desire. For example if the employer wants someone experienced in Microsoft Word and you have not used Word then think about what you have used. Maybe you have used Word Perfect or Open Office Writer. If so be sure to write this down! You can include it like this: Experienced in Open Office Writer (very similar to Microsoft Word). If you follow the good resume samples above you will do a much better job of showing how qualified you are. Remember this is the whole point of your resume: to get the employers attention and show them you are a great fit for their needs. If you do this you should be granted an interview.

We call it a functional resume because it performs its function ie it gets them ringing you and wanting you to come in for interview. In fact the image we often have of the word functional in other words objective logical left-brained is precisely the sort of resume that usually gets a big yawn and then gets trashed. Truly functional resume samples are in fact nothing like functional in the sense we think of. What we need to do is stand out from the crowd and appeal on an emotional level to the person reading it. For example a powerful resume will always begin with an objective almost like a mission statement because that really makes them take notice. You want to include reasons why you want the job and why you are ideally suited to it.
